Flail (F)

Used for mechanical mine clearance and surface threat reduction in contaminated areas.

Designed to operate reliably in rocky and irregular ground conditions where other mechanical tools may be limited.
Effective vegetation & obstacle reduction by cutting and crushing branches, bushes and roots while removing tripwires, wire obstacles and rubble.

Designed for the mechanical neutralisation of buried and surface explosive threats, the GCS Flail supports route and area clearance operations where vegetation, rubble and uneven ground limit manual access.

Mechanical impact clearance

Mounted on unmanned GCS platforms and operated remotely, the flail uses rotating chains and hammers to deliver controlled impact, exposing, detonating or mechanically destroying explosive hazards while keeping operators at a safe distance. The flail is typically used in early clearance phases to reduce risk, prepare ground for follow‑on tasks and restore controlled access across contaminated areas.

Variants

Explore our range of products

The Flail comes in two variants, matched to the size, power and operational role of their host platforms.

F‑100

The F‑100 is a compact flail designed for integration with the GCS‑100 platform. It is used for the mechanical clearance of AP mines and the reduction of vegetation and surface obstacles, particularly where low system weight, high manoeuvrability and access to confined or sensitive terrain are required.

F‑200

The F‑200 is a heavy flail attachment for the GCS‑200 platform. It is designed for demanding mechanical clearance-support tasks involving AP and AT mine threats, vegetation and surface clutter, particularly in rocky, uneven or vegetation-heavy environments.

Key Features

Built for operational deployment

01

Effective vegetation & obstacle reduction

Capable of cutting and crushing branches, bushes and roots while removing tripwires, wire obstacles and rubble, supporting safer follow‑on clearance activities.

02

Performance in hard & uneven terrain

Designed to operate reliably in rocky and irregular ground conditions where other mechanical tools may be limited.

03

Neutralisation of explosive threats

Chains and hammers mounted on a rotating rotor deliver repeated impact to expose, detonate or mechanically destroy buried explosive devices, including AP and AT mines.

04

Certified effective clearance

The flail configurations have been tested and certified as part of GCS-100 and GCS-200 platform systems by CTRO for mechanical demining performance under applicable IMAS-aligned test conditions.

05

Blast‑tolerant, open construction

Open design supports blast venting, reducing structural stress on the attachment and the carrier platform during detonation events.

06

Remote‑controlled operation

Fully integrated into the GCS unmanned platform architecture, keeping operators at a safe distance.
