Day two of Ukraine Mine Action Conference in Lausanne moves from strategic intention to concrete implementation. The ceremonial handover of our state-of-the-art remote-controlled GCS-200 demining platform to Ukraine’s Deputy Minister for Economy Ihor Bezkaravainyi and Roman Prymush, Deputy Head of The State Emergency Service of Ukraine was attended by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Head of the Mine Action Unit for the Swiss Armed Forces Dr. Jens Amrhein.
President of the Swiss Federal Council Viola Amherd yesterday announced a comprehensive humanitarian demining package totalling CHF 4.6 million for the purchase of three high-performance GCS mine clearance systems, as well as specialised drone technology and transporters to ensure that the machines can be deployed where they are needed most. The support package furthermore includes comprehensive training measures for the operator teams on site as well as service and maintenance work for three years.
Global Clearance Solutions (GCS) is the world's leading supplier of systems for humanitarian demining in Ukraine and our GCS-200 machine is on display outside the conference before heading to Ukraine in approximately three weeks. There it will join the nearly sixty GCS demining machines already busy eliminating explosive threats in Ukraine.
Attending the conference and the handover, Dmytro Salimonov, General Manager of Global Clearance Solutions Ukraine, explains the significance of GCS’s track record: "Our focus on local capacity building combined with operational excellence distinguishes GCS from other companies. As the first commercially accredited demining company in Ukraine, GCS has played a pioneering role in building local partnerships for successful humanitarian aid over the past two years."
Yesterday also saw the adoption of the Lausanne call to action following several powerful keynote addresses. GCS are grateful for the opportunity to share our experience and build a Path to Peace.
