Attachments & Tools
Modern military engineering vehicles must support a wide range of tasks while remaining adaptable to evolving operational requirements. As part of the Swiss Armed Forces' programme to renew its engineering vehicle fleet, Global Clearance Solutions (GCS) has been awarded a major contract as the supplier of frontmounted military engineering attachments.
The contract was awarded to GCS by General Dynamics European Land Systems - Mowag (GDELS-Mowag) following an extensive procurement and qualityassurance process. It forms part of the wider programme to replace the Swiss Armed Forces' legacy M113 tracked armoured personnel carriers with 60 new PIRANHA IV 8x8 engineering vehicles.
Standardised interface and modular engineering tools
Under the contract, GCS will supply a standardised frontmounted attachment interface for the PIRANHA IV fleet, enabling consistent integration of military engineering tools across vehicles.
Each vehicle will be equipped with a Quick Coupler Adapter (QCA), a customised vehicle integration kit developed by GCS to support modular attachment of frontmounted tools. The QCA allows engineering equipment to be mounted and exchanged efficiently while maintaining compatibility with the host vehicle's protection and mobility characteristics.
In addition to the QCA, the procurement includes:
Dozer Blades for earthmoving, obstacle clearance and engineering tasks
Dozer Blade Manipulators (DBM), with a total of 24 units supplied
The DBM is designed to extend the functionality of the dozer blade by enabling controlled manipulation of objects and obstacles. The system includes enhanced features such as a modern camera setup to support identification and handling of explosive threats during combat engineering and clearance operations.
Engineering capability for current and future requirements
The supplied attachment systems are intended to support a broad range of combat engineering and explosive threat mitigation tasks, including route preparation, obstacle removal and support to clearance operations.
As the Head of Business Development at GCS notes, the programme reflects close collaboration between industrial partners and a focus on delivering equipment capable of addressing diverse operational challenges.
The attachment solutions supplied under this contract are part of GCS's Professional Services portfolio, which is based on modularity, adaptability and lifecycle support rather than singlepurpose hardware.
Production and delivery timeline
Pilot production of the attachments and associated hardware is scheduled to begin in November 2022. Delivery of the systems under the PIRANHA IV programme is planned for 2025, aligned with the Swiss Armed Forces' vehicle renewal timeline.
The contract represents an important milestone for GCS in the field of military engineering and vehiclebased clearance support, reinforcing its role as a supplier of integrated engineering solutions that combine mechanical interfaces, taskspecific tools and long-term support.
