Global Clearance Solutions (GCS) recently hosted a high-level delegation from the Nigerian Army, the German Technical Advisory Group (GTAG) and the German Federal Ministry of Defence at its Stockach facilities for a three-day programme of demonstrations, technical exchanges and operational discussions.

The visit centred on the GTAG Nigeria Detection System project, an initiative designed to address an urgent operational requirement identified by the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers. In parts of northeastern Nigeria, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), placed by militant networks, continue to pose a significant threat to military movements, humanitarian access and civilian transportation. The need for reliable Route Clearance capabilities has become increasingly important as security forces work to keep critical supply routes open and safe.

During the visit, senior representatives of the Nigerian Army observed live demonstrations of the GCS Detection System prototype and evaluated its performance in representative field conditions. The programme also included technical briefings, discussions on deployment concepts and a review of future requirements.

A key objective of the engagement was to ensure continued alignment between operational needs and technological development. Bringing engineers, end users, government stakeholders and industry experts together enabled direct feedback on system functionality, integration and training considerations, helping shape the next stages of the project.

The visit also provided an opportunity to showcase GCS’ engineering and production capabilities through a factory tour and presentations of complementary technologies. Discussions focused not only on current prototype performance but also on long-term cooperation and capability development.

As part of the bilateral defence cooperation between Germany and Nigeria, two Route Clearance systems are planned for delivery to the Nigerian Army. The programme is supported through German government funding and coordinated in close cooperation with GTAG and the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers.

The engagement demonstrated how close collaboration between users, government organisations and technology providers can accelerate the development of practical solutions to complex security challenges.
