As Ukraine continues to balance wartime conditions with economic activity and recovery planning, engagement between international businesses, national authorities and reconstruction partners remains essential.

In February 2024, Global Clearance Solutions (GCS) participated in two European Business Association (EBA) events in Kyiv, focused on investment conditions and privatesector engagement in Ukraine. The meetings brought together Ukrainian and international companies active in sectors critical to recovery, including security, infrastructure and industry.

From early commitment to ontheground activity

While many foreign companies paused activities following the outbreak of war, GCS began developing its Ukrainian engagement from mid2022, aligning operational capability with national clearance priorities. Since then, GCS has worked in cooperation with Ukrainian authorities, including the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence and the National Police, as well as industrial partners such as Nibulon, to support the clearance of contaminated civilian and industrial land.

Participation in the EBA events reflected this ongoing commitment and provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives with other companies that continue to operate and invest in Ukraine despite the challenging environment.

Clearance as a condition for economic activity

Discussions at the EBA's Global Outlook event highlighted the link between security, clearance and economic resilience. Explosive hazard mitigation remains a necessary condition for restoring access to land, infrastructure and industrial sites, particularly in agriculture and logistics.

GCS shared practical insights from its clearance, training and support activities, illustrating how mine action enables continued economic activity rather than following it.

Local presence and capacity building

GCS operates through its Kyiv office, led by General Manager Dmytro Salimonov, with a permanent local team supporting operations, training and coordination. A key focus of GCS's work in Ukraine is the development of local, diverse and genderbalanced clearance capacity, enabling long-term national ownership of explosivehazard mitigation.

This approach aligns with broader recovery objectives discussed at the EBA events, where sustained local capability was identified as essential for reconstruction and investor confidence.

Continued engagement

GCS's participation in the Kyiv discussions underlines its position as an active, long-term partner in Ukraine's recovery. By combining operational presence with dialogue across business and institutional networks, GCS continues to support efforts to create safe conditions for reconstruction, economic activity and civilian life.
