Restoring safe access and supporting development in mine-affected areas of northern Chad requires clearance solutions that can operate reliably in harsh and remote environments. As part of the European Union-funded humanitarian programme "Support to mine clearance, development and social protection of vulnerable populations", Humanity & Inclusion (HI) sought a mechanical demining system capable of sustaining continuous operations under demanding conditions.

Following a public tender process, Global Clearance Solutions (GCS) was selected to provide a remote-operated mechanical demining capability tailored to the operational requirements in northern Chad. The solution is based on the GCS-200, an unmanned multi-purpose platform designed for heavy-duty clearance tasks in high-threat and low-infrastructure environments. For this deployment, the system is configured with tiller and sifter bucket attachments to support effective clearance of explosive remnants of war.

In addition to the primary platform, GCS is supplying a complete support package to enable sustained field operations. This includes transport and logistics assets such as an 8x8 truck and off-road trailer, a field workshop, and a transport container equipped with spare parts, consumables, oils and lubricants.

To support safe and effective use of the equipment, GCS is also delivering capacity-building and field support. This includes a four-week operator training course, a two-week maintainer training course, and on-site technical assistance in northern Chad. GCS field technicians will accompany HI operators and mechanics during daily operations, supporting skill development and maintenance practices and helping to ensure consistent operational output in challenging conditions.

Through the combination of mechanical clearance capability, training and in-country technical support, GCS contributes to humanitarian mine action efforts aimed at reducing explosive risks and enabling safer access for affected communities in northern Chad.
