During the Ukraine Mine Action Conference in Lausanne, Global Clearance Solutions Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, marking another step in the company's long-term engagement in the country.

The memorandum builds on existing cooperation established through operational deployments, capacity-building activities and recent conference outcomes, including the Swiss-funded delivery of additional mechanical demining systems to Ukraine. Rather than announcing a new programme, it formalises cooperation around shared objectives in humanitarian mine action and economic recovery.

From conference commitments to structured cooperation

Mine contamination remains a major constraint on Ukraine's recovery, affecting agriculture, infrastructure and safe civilian access to land. At the conference, international partners highlighted demining as a prerequisite for economic activity, with mechanical clearance, trained personnel and sustained local support identified as key enablers.

Within this context, the memorandum with the Ministry of Economy reinforces coordination between national authorities and operational actors active in the field. It provides a framework for continued cooperation on mine action activities, industry development and the practical integration of international capabilities into Ukraine's national recovery efforts.

The memorandum was signed with Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, alongside meetings held during the conference with government and international partners.

Building local capacity as a foundation for recovery

Since establishing a permanent presence in Ukraine in 2022, GCS has focused on local capacity building alongside operational delivery. This includes investment in infrastructure, training, service and maintenance capabilities, and cooperation with Ukrainian authorities and institutions.

To date, GCS has invested more than EUR 1 million in Ukraine, supporting locally based teams, technical facilities and long-term operations. As a commercially accredited demining company in Ukraine, GCS works with national authorities, emergency services and commercial partners to support clearance activities and risk-management training.

Dmytro Salimonov, General Manager GCS Ukraine, commented on the significance of the memorandum:

"Effective demining requires close coordination between operators and institutions. This memorandum reflects the progress made in building trust and practical cooperation, and supports our focus on involving Ukrainian specialists and organisations directly in clearance and recovery efforts."

Part of a broader Ukraine engagement

The memorandum complements other recent developments, including:

  • the delivery of additional GCS-200 mechanical demining systems under Swiss government support,

  • accredited training and operational deployments across multiple regions,

  • cooperation with national and regional authorities on clearance, training and technical support.

Together, these elements reflect GCS's approach in Ukraine: combining technology, training, service support and institutional cooperation to enable safe land use and sustained recovery.
