Swiss Confederation announces delivery of three additional GCS-200 systems for Ukraine

During the opening of the Ukraine Mine Action Conference, the President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport, Viola Amherd, announced Switzerland's support for Ukraine through a humanitarian demining package that includes the procurement of three mechanical demining systems from Global Clearance Solutions AG (GCS).

The conference brings together representatives from governments, international organisations, industry, civil society and academia to address the role of mine action in social and economic recovery in Ukraine and other affected countries. Discussions focus on strategic coordination as well as practical and technical approaches to largescale clearance.

In her opening address, President Amherd underlined the importance of humanitarian demining for recovery efforts:

"Humanitarian demining is not only a matter of safety, but also a precondition for recovery, in particular for the resumption of agricultural production and the education of children."

As part of the Swiss support package, three GCS-200 mechanical demining platforms will be delivered to Ukraine. The package also includes operator training, as well as service and maintenance support for a period of three years, enabling sustained operational use.

President Amherd stated that the additional systems, combined with local training and support, are intended to strengthen Ukraine's ability to conduct safe and effective demining operations independently over the long term.

The GCS-200 is a remote-controlled mechanical demining platform designed for humanitarian mine action, using modular tools and sensors to support clearance operations in contaminated environments. The broader package also includes specialised drone technology and transport equipment to support deployment and operational mobility.

One GCS-200 system was displayed at the conference venue and is scheduled for delivery to Ukraine within approximately three weeks. The remaining two systems are planned for delivery in December 2024 and February 2025.
